What is the NowPatient Rx Advantage Card?

The NowPatient Rx Advantage Card is a prescription savings card. Discount Savings cards are tools that can help patients save money by lowering the cost of branded and generic prescription medications when paying without insurance. The card is FREE to use at over 65,000 pharmacies across America. The NowPatient Rx Advantage Card is available to use for everyone, whether you have health insurance or not.

Who might benefit from the NowPatient Rx Advantage Card?

Uninsured

Uninsured individuals will always benefit

Commercially Covered

Commercially insured individuals will benefit:

  • If the drug is not covered in their plan formulary

  • If they are in deductible

  • If they have an insurance copay

Medicare Covered

The NowPatient Rx Advantage Card is a prescription savings card and is not insurance. Our card cannot be used in conjunction with any federal or state-funded program such as Medicare or Medicaid. However, our card can be used by Medicare enrollees.

Medicare enrollees could benefit:

  • If the drug is not covered in their plan formulary

  • If they are in the deductible or donut hole

There are some drawbacks for Medicare enrollees who choose to use the NowPatient Rx Advantage Card. These include:

  • Discount cards will not move the patient through their deductible/accumulator

  • Insurance checks for drug-drug interactions are not possible if the claim is processed outside the plan

  • Medicare patients cannot use a discount card (or a coupon) in conjunction with their Medicare insurance

Which medications are covered by the NowPatient Rx Advantage Card?

We can help you save on most medications. You can search for your medication by going to the tools page on your account. Select Rx Advantage Card. You can select the star icon on the tool and this will create a shortcut on your dashboard for ease of future use. Using the action button select ‘Search Medication’. This will allow you to lookup your medication name. Now, enter your medication dosage, quantity, and your zip code. You now will see a map and a list of pharmacies in your area that accept the NowPatient Rx Advantage Card. It will also show you the prices that each pharmacy will charge.

Does the NowPatient Rx Advantage Card cover branded medications?

Yes. The NowPatient Rx Advantage Card covers both generic and branded medications.

How do I use the card at the Pharmacy?

After you have viewed a quote from a Pharmacy that you are happy with, go to that pharmacy. When you hand your prescription over, let the Pharmacist know that you want to purchase the medication without insurance, with the NowPatient Rx Advantage Card. You will need to show the Pharmacist a copy of your virtual card so he/she can run your number through their systems. You can show them the digital card by opening up your App or account and navigating to the Rx Advantage Card tool and selecting the ‘View Card’ action.

You must ensure the Pharmacy uses your card, rather than offering you another card.

Can the card be used in every pharmacy?

The NowPatient Rx Advantage Card is accepted in over 65,000 pharmacies, nationwide. You will see which pharmacies accept our card, when you search your medication.

Stores that accept our card include:

  • Kroger Pharmacy

  • CVS Pharmacy

  • Walgreens Pharmacy

  • RiteAid Pharmacy

  • Walmart Pharmacy

  • Costco Pharmacy

Can I re-use the NowPatient Rx Advantage Card?

Yes. After the first time you add the card to your account, you can re-use the same card. Please make sure you show the pharmacy, each time you get your Rx filled. It’s useful to keep checking the best medication prices, since prices can change month to month at different pharmacies.

Can I use my NowPatient Rx Advantage Card for my family members?

Yes.

Am I eligible to use the NowPatient Rx Advantage Card?

You are eligible to use the NowPatient Rx Advantage Card if you are uninsured, underinsured or commercially insured. You can also use the NowPatient Rx Advantage Card if you have Medicare or Medicaid coverage but your prescription is not covered in your plan.

Do I need to pay for the NowPatient Rx Advantage Card?

No. The NowPatient Rx Advantage Card is FREE to use. You only pay for the price of the medication shown at the pharmacy. After you select your medication, the card is stored in your account.

Will the prices shown on the App, be the price I get at the pharmacy?

In the majority of cases, Yes. However, the price could differ if you searched for a different quantity or strength than your prescription. In addition, our price is based upon an estimate of which NDC (national drug code) is most common for the selected strength and form of the drug. If your pharmacy has a different NDC drug in stock, the price may differ as there could be multiple prices for the same drug if they have different manufacturers.

Can I use the NowPatient Rx Advantage Card if I already have insurance?

Yes. However, it cannot be used in conjunction with your insurance. The NowPatient Advantage Rx Card is not insurance and cannot be used with your insurance.

Does the Rx Advantage Card work with Commercial Insurance?

We do not bill your commercial insurance. When you purchase your medication using the Rx Advantage Card, from NowPatient, you will be doing so out of your pocket. The spend will not count towards your plan deductibles or gaps in the event you have a plan with a deductible. The out-of-pocket cash price you pay can be typically cheaper than your plan copay.

If I am insured and use the Rx Advantage Card, will the out-of-pocket costs contribute towards my plan deductibles?

No. If you elect to use the Rx Advantage Card, the out-of-pocket costs will not contribute towards your plan deductibles.

How is the NowPatient Rx Advantage Card different to a copay card?

The NowPatient Rx Advantage Card is not a Copay Card. Copay cards apply savings to the cost of the medication, usually after their insurance covers a portion. Copay cards work in conjunction with your insurance. The NowPatient Rx Advantage Card cannot be used in conjunction with any federal or state-funded program such as Medicare or Medicaid. The NowPatient Rx Advantage Card cannot be used with a copay card.

Which prescription medications are not covered?

We cover prescription medications which are not:

  • Controlled substances schedule 2, which includes many pain killers and ADHD drugs

  • Some additional opioids which are not schedule 2, but are still opioids, at certain chains

  • Vaccines

  • Compounded medications (so it could be drug we cover, like amoxicillin, combined with a syrup to make it easier to take)

  • There are some quantity limits on controlled substances schedule 3, such as Xanax. You can fill a 30 days supply, but not 90 days

  • Any drugs on the medical benefit (i.e. administered by a physician and not dispensed by a pharmacy)
