Advice when taking Methotrexate medication

You must not take methotrexate unless you are having regular blood tests every 4 to 12 weeks. This tells your doctor how well methotrexate is working and are needed to monitor for side effects. Methotrexate reduces the production of blood cells and this can make you more vulnerable to infections.

Methotrexate should be taken exactly as prescribed, typically once a week.

Avoid alcohol and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) unless directed by your doctor.

Report any signs of infection or unusual bruising to your healthcare provider immediately.
