What is the Get Treated Privately service?
Get Treated Privately is NowPatient’s private prescribing service. You can book a free online video consultation with an expert clinician who can assess and treat over 30 medical conditions. If treatment is appropriate, your medication is dispensed and delivered to your home or workplace from our licensed online pharmacy.
What conditions can be treated?
The service covers 30+ common conditions, including hair loss, weight loss, insomnia, menopause, acne, cystitis, erectile dysfunction, fungal nail infections, genital herpes, influenza, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), migraines, psoriasis, rosacea, shingles, thrush, urinary retention, and more.
Who can use this service?
The service is available to adults aged 18 and over with a registered NowPatient account. It is available worldwide.
How much does the service cost?
The video consultation is completely free. You only pay for the cost of any medication prescribed, including shipment costs. If your clinician does not prescribe a treatment, there is no cost whatsoever.
Is medication guaranteed after a consultation?
No. All prescriptions are issued at the sole discretion of the attending clinician. NowPatient is a safe prescribing service, not a self-select service — you cannot choose a medication and simply buy it. If no prescription is issued, you will not be charged.
How do I book a consultation?
Log in to your NowPatient account and go to the Get Treated Privately Service Card in the ‘Private Services’ section of your homepage. Use the Options Menu to ‘Search Condition’ or ‘Search Treatment’, then follow the prompts to select a date, time, and clinician. Booking slots are available up to 7 days in advance.
Can I choose my clinician?
Yes. During booking, you can browse available clinicians who specialise in your chosen treatment or condition. You can filter by gender and spoken languages, and view each clinician’s full name, licence number, and specialist credentials.
Do I need to update my health profile before booking?
Yes. All patients must complete or update their health profile before booking. This includes current medications, allergies, existing conditions, previous surgeries, family medical history, current symptoms, and in some cases blood pressure readings, height, weight, and blood test results. A complete profile helps your clinician prescribe safely.
What is the blood pressure measurement tool?
For certain medications, your clinician may need a blood pressure reading. The NowPatient app can measure your blood pressure using your smartphone’s front-facing camera — no cuff or wearable required. It is classified as a Medical Device conforming to EU CE and UKCA Class I standards. You need a recent iOS or Android phone (not available on desktop).
What reminders will I receive before my consultation?
You can opt in to receive an SMS reminder 30 minutes before your scheduled consultation. You will also receive in-app and push notifications when your booking is confirmed.
What happens during the video consultation?
Your clinician will introduce themselves, verify your identity (bring your ID), and review your health profile. You will be reminded that you must provide accurate information about your medical history and medications. The clinician will then assess your condition, discuss treatment options with you, and agree on a plan if treatment is appropriate.
Do I need to bring ID to the consultation?
Yes. Your clinician will ask to see your ID to confirm your identity. This is required for your safety.
Can I bring someone to my consultation?
Yes. You can bring a carer, friend, or family member if they are in the same location as you. Let your clinician know at the start of the appointment. You may be asked about their relationship to you.
Will the clinician inform my GP about the treatment?
With your consent, the clinician may inform your doctor of the treatment prescribed. We recommend agreeing to this, as your doctor is responsible for your overall care and should have a record of the consultation and any medication prescribed.
What happens after my consultation?
You will receive a notification summarising the outcome, any referrals to your doctor, and any advice given. If a referral letter was issued, you can view it in the ‘Documents’ section of your account. If treatment was prescribed, it will appear in your Cart for checkout.
What if the clinician does not prescribe what I wanted?
Clinicians always exercise their clinical judgement when prescribing. If they determine that a particular medication is not safe or suitable for you, they will not prescribe it. NowPatient is a safe prescribing service, not a self-select service. If no prescription is issued, you will not be charged.
Will I be asked for feedback?
You may receive a short survey about your experience. We encourage you to complete it — your feedback helps us improve the service for you and other patients.
How do I complete my order after treatment is prescribed?
Go to your Cart, select ‘Checkout’, choose your delivery address and method, confirm your billing address, review the order, and submit payment. NowPatient never handles your payment details — all payments are processed securely by our banking partner.
When can I reorder my medication?
Fourteen days after receiving your first monthly supply, NowPatient will send you a notification advising you are eligible to reorder.
How do I reorder?
Navigate to the Get Treated Privately Service Card and select ‘Manage Treatments’ from the Options Menu. You will see sections for Reorder, Voided, and Pending. Select ‘Reorder’ to book a follow-up consultation. Please note, Weight Loss Treatments, have a slightly different re-ordering process due to extra built-in safeguards required to ensure treatment continuation remains appropriate.
Why do I need a consultation every time I reorder?
For your safety, NowPatient does not issue more than one month’s supply at a time. A follow-up consultation ensures your clinician can check your progress, assess any new information, confirm your treatment remains safe and effective, and adjust your dose if needed.
What happens at the follow-up consultation?
Your clinician will review your progress and may advise you to stop treatment, stay on the current dose, or increase the dose. If it is safe to continue, the medication is added to your Cart for checkout.
Where does NowPatient deliver?
We deliver to all postcodes and zip codes worldwide. Some rural areas may experience slightly longer delivery times.
How is my order packaged?
All orders are shipped in discreet, unmarked packaging. Temperature-sensitive items (such as insulin or weight loss injections) are sent in cold chain-validated packaging. Your first order must go to your registered address; after that, you can choose any delivery address.
What delivery options are available?
UK deliveries use Royal Mail Tracked 24 & Signed (next-day). European deliveries take 3–5 working days via Royal Mail Tracked. Worldwide deliveries take 7–21 working days (tracked where available). Orders placed before 3pm Monday–Friday are dispatched the same day.
Do you ship temperature-sensitive products?
Yes. We use a specialist courier service for all temperature-sensitive deliveries to ensure cold chain integrity is maintained at all times.
What should I do if my order has not arrived?
Check tracking details in the ‘Notifications’ section on your account homepage (click the bell icon). If your order has not arrived within 10 days of dispatch, contact us and we will work to resolve the issue.
Will I get status updates for my order?
Yes. NowPatient keeps you informed at every stage via email and in-app notifications. Each time your order status changes, you will be notified.
Who are the prescribing clinicians?
NowPatient’s clinicians are board-certified pharmacists, nurses, or doctors, all registered with their respective regulatory bodies. Every clinician undergoes DBS background checks and rigorous licence verification. The formulary is governed by Medical Director Dr. Ihtesham Sabri.
How do I know the clinician is qualified?
When you book, you can see the clinician’s full name, licence number, and specialist credentials. All clinicians are registered with bodies such as the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and undergo extensive background checks.
Can I get medication advice from NowPatient?
Yes. NowPatient’s pharmacists provide medication advice and counselling across all dispensing services. If you have questions about your medication, the pharmacy team is available to help.
Are my consultations confidential?
Yes. NowPatient follows strict GDPR requirements and is HIPAA compliant, ensuring your Personal Health Information (PHI) is handled securely and confidentially. Records are maintained of all processing, and breaches are reported if they occur.
How is my data protected?
NowPatient holds ISO27001, DTAC, DSPT, and Cyber Essentials+ accreditations, demonstrated through regular external audits. These certifications meet and exceed UK and US data security standards.
How is my data stored?
Data residency is a key priority. UK-based data remains solely in the UK. US data is governed by HIPAA-prescribed security protocols. All data centres align with the highest standards of security and privacy.
Are remote video consultations safe and secure?
Yes. NowPatient has specific safeguards and protocols in place. The video technology platform is certified to the highest industry standards of data security and clinical governance.
