What is the NowPatient Canadian Rx Savings program?
The Canadian Rx Savings program gives US patients access to Canadian pharmacy pricing for their prescription medications. Americans pay, on average, 218% more for prescription medications than people in other developed countries, including Canada. NowPatient connects you with Prescription Help, a licensed Canadian partner pharmacy, so you can access those lower prices and have your medication delivered directly to your home — without crossing the border.
Why are Canadian drug prices so much lower than in the US?
In Canada, the Patented Medicines Prices Review Board (PMPRB) regulates the maximum prices pharmaceutical companies can charge for prescription medications. This government oversight prevents the uncapped pricing seen in the US market. As a result, the same branded or generic medication can cost a fraction of its US retail price when purchased through a licensed Canadian pharmacy.
Is the Canadian Rx Savings program insurance?
No. This is not insurance. All payments are cash-based and treated as out-of-pocket expenses. The program cannot be combined with health insurance, copay cards, or coupons. You pay the Canadian pharmacy price directly, out of pocket.
Who is Prescription Help, and what is NowPatient’s role?
Prescription Help is NowPatient’s licensed Canadian partner pharmacy. It operates independently of NowPatient. NowPatient acts as an affiliate partner — connecting US patients with the service through the platform. All order processing, prescription verification, dispensing, and delivery is carried out by Prescription Help.
Who is the Canadian Rx Savings program for?
The program is available to all Americans regardless of insurance status. It is especially beneficial for patients who are uninsured, underinsured, or commercially insured but unable to afford their copay or coinsurance. Even for insured patients, the Canadian cash price is often lower than the insurance copay — so it is worth comparing before you fill your prescription.
Can I use Canadian Rx Savings if I already have health insurance?
Yes, but the program cannot be used in combination with your insurance. If you choose to use it, you pay the Canadian price entirely out of pocket. NowPatient does not bill your insurance company, and the purchase will not count towards your plan deductible. In many cases, the Canadian cash price is still lower than your insured copay, making it a worthwhile alternative.
Is it legal to import prescription medications from Canada?
US government officials have indicated they do not pursue individuals who obtain non-controlled prescription drugs from Canada for personal use, up to a 3-month supply. Hundreds of thousands of Americans already use Canadian pharmacies each year to access medications at substantial discounts. If you have specific concerns about your situation, we recommend discussing this option with your physician.
Are Canadian medications safe?
Yes. Canadian medications undergo the same rigorous safety, efficacy, and quality testing as their American equivalents. Health Canada — Canada’s equivalent of the US FDA — regulates all drugs sold in Canada. The medications dispensed through this program are identical to those you would receive at a US pharmacy, in the same appearance and packaging.

Is the NowPatient platform safe and secure?
Yes. NowPatient operates on a HIPAA, DTAC, and Cyber Essentials Plus certified compliant platform. This ensures the highest levels of information security and allows us to safely handle Patient Health Information (PHI). The Canadian Rx Savings service is also classified as a Class I medical device under UK MDR 2002 regulations, and complies with NHS standards DTAC, DCB 0160, and DCB 0129. Clinicians access NowPatient systems on a zero-trust basis, backed by single sign-on (SSO) technologies.
Are my personal and payment details protected?
Yes. NowPatient never handles your payment details directly — all payments are processed securely by our banking partner. Your personal information is protected under the platform’s HIPAA-compliant security standards, and Prescription Help has a written commitment not to sell your information to third parties.
Do I need a prescription to use the Canadian Rx Savings program?
Yes. A valid US physician prescription is required for every order. You can upload your prescription during checkout, or provide your physician’s details so the pharmacy can request it directly. Doctors can also fax prescriptions to +1 512-957-0207. Uploading your prescription at checkout is optional but will significantly speed up the verification and processing time.
Will a Canadian doctor review my prescription?
A Canadian physician may contact you and/or your US physician to verify the legitimacy of your prescription and confirm the medication is clinically appropriate for your condition. For high-risk medications, the Canadian physician may also request blood test results or other supporting medical information before approving the order.
What medications are not available through the program?
Controlled substances are not supplied through this program. Additionally, no products on the FDA Import Alert lists are available. All other non-controlled prescription medications — both branded and generic — are subject to the standard prescription verification process and the maximum 3-month supply limit per international order.
How do I find my medication and check the price?
Go to the Drug Savings section of your NowPatient account homepage and locate the Canadian Rx Savings Service Card. Select ‘Search’ from the options menu. Type the first four letters of your brand or generic medication name. A dropdown will display all available options — including pack sizes, strengths, manufacturers, and prices — so you can find the option that matches your prescription.
How do I add a medication to my cart?
Select the option that matches your prescription, including the correct strength and quantity, then tap ‘Add to Cart’. Your cart is automatically saved if you leave before finishing, so you can return at any time to pick up where you left off.

Confirmation of your prescriber’s details
Medication preparation with quality checks at every stage (2–3 days)
Shipping arranged and dispatched within 5 days
Is my cart saved if I don’t finish my order?

How do I reorder my refills from my account?
When you place your first order with NowPatient, your available refills will automatically appear under the Reorder option on your Canadian Rx Savings Service Card — once we have received your prescription.
After your first dispense, simply select Reorder at any time to request your next refill. Reordering follows the same checkout process, but you won’t need to upload your prescription again — we already have it on file. Just complete the checkout screen and we’ll take care of the rest.
Please note, if your refills have run out, you will need to provide a new prescription before we can process your reorder. You can upload a new Rx directly through your account or arrange one with your physician and have it sent to us.
Where do you deliver?
We deliver to all zip codes across the United States. Some rural areas may experience slightly longer delivery times than the standard window.
How long does delivery take?
The total process from order to delivery is 7 to 21 days. This covers prescription verification (1–2 days), order processing and quality checking (2–3 days), and shipping via Royal Mail International Standard Tracked & Signed (dispatched within 5 days). Orders placed Monday to Friday before 3pm are dispatched the same day from receipt of your prescription. Orders placed after 3pm or at weekends are dispatched the next working day.
Which courier service do you use?
Medications are shipped via Royal Mail International Standard Tracked & Signed, which delivers Monday to Saturday. You will receive a tracking number once your order has been dispatched so you can monitor progress at every stage.
How is my medication packaged?
All orders are shipped in discreet, unmarked packaging — there is nothing on the outside that identifies the contents as prescription medication. For temperature-sensitive medications, we use cold chain-validated packaging to maintain product quality, safety, and efficacy throughout transit. You will normally receive an estimated delivery window from the courier on the day of delivery.
Do you ship temperature-sensitive medications?
Yes. A specialist courier service is used for all temperature-sensitive deliveries to ensure cold chain integrity is maintained throughout shipping. Your medication arrives in packaging specifically designed to preserve its quality and efficacy.
Can my first order be delivered to a different address, such as my workplace?
For your protection, your first order can only be delivered to the address registered with your NowPatient account. Once your first order is complete, future orders can be delivered to any address you choose, including your workplace or a neighbour’s address.
What if my order has not arrived within 21 days?
You can check your tracking details in the ‘Notification Feed’ section of your dashboard at any time after your order has been dispatched. If your delivery has not arrived within 21 days of the dispatch notification, please contact us and we will do everything we can to resolve the issue.
How will I know the status of my order?
NowPatient keeps you informed at every stage. You will receive status update notifications by email and through in-app notifications in your NowPatient account. Tracking details are also available at any time via the Notification Feed on your dashboard.
How much can I save with the Canadian Rx Savings program?
You can save up to 80% compared to standard US pharmacy prices. Because Americans pay on average 218% more than people in other developed countries, even commonly prescribed medications can represent very substantial savings when purchased through a licensed Canadian pharmacy.
Are there any enrollment or membership fees?
No. There are no sign-up fees, subscription charges, or membership costs. You simply pay the discounted Canadian price for your medication when you place your order. You can also check prices without an account using the Canadian Rx Savings price comparison tool on the NowPatient website before committing to anything.
Will I be charged import duties when my order arrives?
No. NowPatient handles all US import duties on your behalf. You will not be charged any additional fees at the point of delivery. The price displayed at checkout is the total price you pay.
Can I get medication advice from a pharmacist?
Yes. Both NowPatient’s pharmacists and Prescription Help’s licensed pharmacists are available to provide medication advice and counselling. If you have questions about your medication — including dosage, potential interactions, or side effects — you can reach out for support at any stage of your order.
What tips can help my order go smoothly?
Two simple steps make a big difference:
Upload your prescription during checkout. Although this is optional, it can significantly speed up the verification and processing stages.
Double-check your doctor’s details before submitting. Incorrect prescriber details are one of the most common causes of delays in the prescription verification step.
What if I have a problem with my order?
You can contact NowPatient support by phone at 1-866-967-1977 (Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm EST), by email at support@nowpatient.com, or by fax at +1 512-957-0207. For fulfilment-specific queries, the Prescription Help team can be reached via the contact details provided at checkout.
